What Is Sales Rank? What's up guys I want to a discussion to you about something very important today we're gonna converse about sales rank. What is sales rank? if you don't know what sales rank is you really need to understand this article. Sales rank is a number that Amazon assigns to a product. This number basically indicates how frequently an item sells. You can use the sales rank as an indicator to know how popular an item is and it's very very important to understand sales rank. Not just at a superficial level but to understand it as a whole and how that applies to your business of buying things and selling them on Amazon. If an item has never sold it doesn't have a sales rank. If it has a sales rank you know it's sold at least one time when an item doesn't sell the rank gets worse and worse and worse. It gets higher numbers 1 million two million 3 million 4 million then boom along comes to a sale and the rank shoots down to a hundred thousand, ten thousand whatever. Important Of Sales RankIf it doesn't have any more sales it continues to get worse from there. Basically, rank is driven down by sales down as better lower sales rank is better. It's pushed down when it gets purchased. Demand pushes rank down and when it's devoid of demand it just goes up and up and up. so sales rank is very important. what you need to understand more importantly is that sales rank is just a snapshot in time. it just means that at that point in time that's what the sales rank is. So this can be good and bad. Explain The bad Situation of Sales RankLet me explain the bad situation take an item like a book with a 12 million rank .this book does not sell very often at all. as evidenced by the fact that it has a 12 million rank but just one sale of this item will push the crank down all the way to a hundred thousand. If you're inexperienced you might scan a book and say wow! this is a five-hundred-dollar book with a 100,000 rank this is a killer deal, to buy it for 10 or 20 bucks. whatever you're going to make a good return on that. But upon further investigation, you would know that the rank was recently 10 million 12 million and that item is not going to sell as frequently as most 100,000 rank items that you buy. That rank is very quickly going to shoot up back up to 10 million 12 million. It may never sell another copy again. What you need to know more than sales rank to Understand the whole picture of the sales rank. This is where certain tools come into play to help you need to know how to utilize sales rank graphs. There are a few sources for sales rank graphs and I'm sure there's a couple that I don't know about but I will list off the ones that I like to use and I know about. Amazon optimization and product ranking SEO is recommended Solution of sales rank. Price History and Sales rankFirst off it has price history and sales rank on two separate sheets you can look at it and you can see how the sales rank went up and down over time. You can see it for a three-month period, a six month period, nine months, 12 months or the entire lifetime. This is great Because you can just see how the sales rain goes up and down. You can see that it basically was just going up and up. Then one thing sold and that's a hundred thousand ranks now but it's probably just going to continue on its way back up to 12 million whereas. If you scanned an item that had a hundred thousand ranks and you looked at the sales rank graph on. You could see that it was consistently bouncing back and forth between a hundred thousand and five hundred thousand that book sells much more What is Average sales RankBasically every time the rent gets pushed down that's done by people buying it whether it's one copy or a lot of copies there is sales volume pushing that rank down. That rank that is 500,000 much more often is going to be a much better rank. I don't think shows average rank but you can see the line of the sales rank when it looks like an earthquake. That means it's going to have a lot of sales a lot of demand it sells more often. That brings me to the next tool that I like to use this is to keep. This one is awesome because it shows sales rank and price history on the same chart and you can actually see what happens when people price and item too high the sales rank gets terrible because people aren't going to buy it. The other great thing about Kiba is that there is average rank. You could see the average rank over the last 30 days 90 days lifetime etc. Useful of Average sales RankOne thing in this content what you want to know is that average rank is everything and sales rank is literally nothing. Sales rank is a snapshot of a moment in time whether that's the time you looked it up or you're using database mode on FB a scan. It's from when the database was downloaded. It literally means nothing compared to average rank. FB a scan is one of the only scanning services that I know that offers average rank and that's average 90-day rank on your scanner. You can just see it straight there so you know that when you scan an item in its five million ranks and the average rank is five million also that thing doesn't sell very often. When you see an item and it's a hundred thousand but the average rank is 2.2 million. You also know that doesn't sell as often versus where if you scan an item in the rank was a hundred thousand in the average rank was a hundred and fifty thousand. You know that ranked consistently stays in that range to sell. That is extremely useful I base a lot of my buying decisions on average sales rank versus regular sales rank.
There are a couple others there's a service called the tractor and there's another one called rice zombie there. I'm sure there's a few more that I don't know about. Those are the ones that I dunno about that I recommend you guys using. Kiba is super important as well as camel and both of those have browser extensions. That you can install on Chrome that makes it super easy to wear anytime. You're on a product detail page you just click the camel button in your URL and it will bring up the camel graph for that product right away. The kippah extension is even better it just shows up right on the product detail page. You're looking at an item on amazon and you can see the kippah graph right there. I don't know what else you could ask for we are tremendously spoiled with the tools in the data that we have to make our buying decisions.
